Brothers Liberating Our Communities (BLOC)

Deepening Support for Black, Male Educators

Brothers Liberating Our Communities (BLOC) is a Kansas City-based non-profit that seeks to increase the representation of Black men in education spaces. In 2020–2021, BLOC engaged Trepwise to lead their strategic planning process in order to develop program and growth goals, effectively streamline their operations, and identify strategies around fundraising, membership, and communications.

To achieve these goals, we facilitated a series of stakeholder interviews, partner focus groups, participant surveys, and Board working sessions to co-create priorities and initiatives to lead their work over the next three years.

Results

As a result of our collaborative work, BLOC received a robust strategic plan that laid out a quarter-by-quarter roadmap to increasing member-informed programs and services, building impactful partnerships, expanding funding resources, executing a communications strategy, and strengthening their organizational core. In the 18 months following the initial strategic planning process, BLOC was able to grow its team, expand its programming, and hit new funding milestones.
