NOLA Youth Master Plan
Architecting a Ten-Year Vision for Success for All New Orleans Young People
The New Orleans CYPB Purpose and Function: CYPB is to participate in the formulation of and to prepare a comprehensive plan for services and programs for the children and youth of New Orleans: The New Orleans Youth Master Plan (2020-2030).
The Board is intended to encourage collaborative efforts among local stakeholders for assessing the physical, social, emotional, developmental, behavioral, educational, safety and poverty impacts and needs of children, youth and their families in their respective communities, and for assisting in the development of comprehensive plans to address such.
Our work began with an expansive plan development phase that built upon community conversations and was driven by cross-sector working groups comprised of dozens of system leaders, advocates, youth, and parents. This highly collaborative and youth-centered process included managing five concurrent working groups, incorporating insight from multiple advisory bodies, and engaging subject matter experts in plan design.
In phase two of the project, we worked across six sectors — including Health & Wellbeing, Safety & Justice, Education, Space & Place, Economic Stability, and Youth Voice — to define outcomes and develop implementation action plans to be owned by key institutional actors across the city.
The plan has been endorsed by the Mayor, the City Council, and other system leaders, and is in year two of implementation. Hundreds of organizations and young people have been engaged on an ongoing basis, and all of the initial solutions are in the process of implementation.
